30, 50 or 100 ml: choosing your fragrance size
A large bottle may cost less by volume while adding an unnecessary expense. Use this framework to choose a size, then compare its delivered cost.
Read the guideThe refill guide
“Refillable” describes a bottle; a “refill” is a presentation to identify. Gather the compatibility information before comparing the price.
You have a bottle and find a refill at an appealing price. Start by recording the full name and wording on your bottle, then those of the proposed refill. A brand name or resemblance between two packs cannot confirm compatibility. Your decision needs a documented match, rather than just a familiar name.
Distinguish the contents of the offer too: a filled bottle described as refillable, a refill sold alone and a set containing both are different purchases. If you are buying your first bottle, a refill alone does not automatically replace the presentation you wanted.
Use this table to classify the offer before comparing an amount. These headings organise your checks; they do not describe compatibility within an actual range.
| Presentation | What to look for on the page | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Refillable bottle | A filled bottle and its exact designation | Which refills are explicitly intended for this version? |
| Refill alone | Its reference, volume and listed bottles | Is my bottle among the compatible references? |
| Set with refill | Details of every included item | Are the stated bottle and refill the ones I want? |
Look for the manufacturer’s information for your precise reference. Record the concentration, variant, bottle volume where requested and stated conditions. Information covering one version must not be extended to an entire collection. If the answer remains ambiguous, send both references to the manufacturer or merchant and ask for confirmation.
Keep the page address or reply describing the match. The following table is a checking worksheet, not a set of filling instructions. To carry out the operation, follow the instructions for the confirmed system.
| Information | Your notes |
|---|---|
| Bottle you own: name and version | … |
| Reference of the proposed refill | … |
| Concentration and variant confirmed | … |
| Source listing compatible bottles | … |

Entirely invented example: a compatible 100 ml refill costs €72 plus €5 delivery, making €77 in total and €77 per 100 ml delivered. A filled 100 ml bottle of the same fragrance, concentration and variant costs €89 including delivery. If you already own the compatible bottle, the difference between these two orders is €12.
If you also need to acquire a bottle, that €12 difference does not measure the saving on your first purchase. Include the cost of the required bottle and any contents, then compare an equivalent total quantity. A fictional combination of a filled 50 ml bottle and a 100 ml refill represents 150 ml, not 100 ml. The refill’s own price by volume is always calculated over the 100 ml sold; how it can be used then depends on the confirmed system and instructions.
For a point-of-sale filling service, check the establishment, accepted references and offered conditions. Cosmetics Europe’s 2021 professional guidance concerns these in-store systems and instructions specific to the equipment. It does not validate home refilling for your bottle.
This guide does not explain how to dismantle a spray, adapt a container or improvise a transfer. It helps you check an offer. A documented financial comparison also cannot establish an environmental assessment: that would require separate data with a defined scope.
If information is missing, keep the offer on hold and ask for it rather than assuming compatibility. You can then compare sellers of the exact same reference.
The right refill is first the one with confirmed compatibility. Price comes after that check.
